International Webinar: "Towards The Centenary of the "Norge" Polar Expedition"

A few days before the Arctic Circle Forum (Rome, 3-4 March 2026) and the upcoming centenary of the first transpolar flight (April-May 1926), the webinar aims to explore a selection of key issues related to this historic feat and its legacy. The first session of the event will focus on historical and political themes such as the relationship between aviation and polar exploration, Italian-Norwegian diplomatic relations, the role of the Soviet Union and the search for transpolar air routes during the interwar period. The second session will include presentations related to Umberto Nobile, Roald Amundsen, and the airship “Norge”, with particular regard to the role of the memory of the polar expedition between yesterday and today.
